Control of shock wave-boundary layer interactions by bleed in supersonic mixed compression inlets
An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the effect of bleed on a shock wave-boundary layer interaction in an axisymmetric mixed-compression supersonic inlet. The inlet was designed for a free-stream Mach number of 2.50 with 60-percent supersonic internal area contraction. The experiment was conducted in the NASA Lewis Research Center 10-Foot Supersonic Wind Tunnel. The effects of bleed amount and bleed geometry on the boundary layer after a shock wave-boundary layer interaction were studied. The effect of bleed on the transformed form factor is such that the full realizable reduction is obtained by bleeding of a mass flow equal to about one-half of the incident boundary layer mass flow. More bleeding does not yield further reduction. Bleeding upstream or downstream of the shock-induced pressure rise is preferable to bleeding across the shock-induced pressure rise
Weak and Electromagnetic Nuclear Decay Signatures for Neutrino Reactions in SuperKamiokande
We suggest the study of events in the SuperKamiokande neutrino data due to
charged- and neutral-current neutrino reactions followed by weak and/or
electromagnetic decays of struck nuclei and fragments thereof. This study could
improve the prospects of obtaining evidence for production from oscillations and could augment the data sample used to disfavor
oscillations.Comment: 7 pages, latex, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Analytic Calculation of Neutrino Mass Eigenvalues
Implicaion of the neutrino oscillation search for the neutrino mass square
difference and mixing are discussed. We have considered the effective majorana
mass m_{ee}, related for \beta\beta_{0\nu}decay. We find limits for neutrino
mass eigen value m_{i} in the different neutrino mass spectrum, which explain
the different neutrino data.Comment: 10 page
Neutrino Exotica in the Skew E_6 Left-Right Model
With the particle content of the 27 representation of E_6, a skew left-right
supersymmetric gauge model was proposed many years ago, with a variety of
interesting phenomenological implications. The neutrino sector of this model
offers a natural framework for obtaining small Majorana masses for nu_e, nu_mu,
and nu_tau, with the added bonus of accommodating 2 light sterile neutrinos.Comment: 12 pages, no figure, conclusion clarifie
Leptogenesis with Almost Degenerate Majorana Neutrinos
We investigate the leptogenesis with almost degenerate neutrinos, in the
framework of democratic mass matrix, which naturally explains the large mixing
angles for neutrino oscillations as well as quark masses and mixing matrix. We
find that the baryon asymmetry in the present universe is explained via the
decays of right-handed neutrinos produced nonthermally by the inflaton decay.
The model predicts neutrinoless double beta decays accessible in near future
experiments.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, 2 figure
Rotation-induced 3D vorticity in 4He superfluid films adsorbed on a porous glass
Detailed study of torsional oscillator experiments under steady rotation up
to 6.28 rad/sec is reported for a 4He superfluid monolayer film formed in 1
micrometer-pore diameter porous glass. We found a new dissipation peak with the
height being in proportion to the rotation speed, which is located to the lower
temperature than the vortex pair unbinding peak observed in the static state.
We propose that 3D coreless vortices ("pore vortices") appear under rotation to
explain this new peak. That is, the new peak originates from dissipation close
to the pore vortex lines, where large superfluid velocity shifts the vortex
pair unbinding dissipation to lower temperature. This explanation is confirmed
by observation of nonlinear effects at high oscillation amplitudes.Comment: 4pages, 5figure
Nearly Mass-Degenerate Majorana Neutrinos: Double Beta Decay and Neutrino Oscillations
Assuming equal tree-level Majorana masses for the standard-model neutrinos,
either from the canonical seesaw mechanism or from a heavy scalar triplet, I
discuss how their radiative splitting may be relevant to neutrinoless double
beta decay and neutrino oscillations.Comment: 12 pages, including 4 figures, talk at NANP9
Constraints on R-parity violating couplings from LEP/SLD hadronic observables
We analyze the one loop corrections to hadronic Z decays in an R-parity
violating extension to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM).
Performing a global fit to all the hadronic observables at the Z-peak, we
obtain stringent constraints on the R-violating couplings constants lambda' and
lambda''. As a result of the strong constraints from the b asymmetry parameters
A_b and A_FB(b), we find that the couplings lambda'{i31}, lambda'{i32}, and
lambda''{321} are ruled out at the 1 sigma level, and that lambda'{i33} and
lambda''{33i} are ruled out at the 2 sigma level. We also obtain Bayesian
confidence limits for the R-violating couplings.Comment: 30 pages, 19 postscript figures, REVTeX, new section 8 on Bayesian

Prospects for observations of high-energy cosmic tau neutrinos
We study prospects for the observations of high-energy cosmic tau neutrinos
(E \geq 10^6 GeV) originating from proton acceleration in the cores of active
galactic nuclei. We consider the possibility that vacuum flavor neutrino
oscillations induce a tau to muon neutrino flux ratio greatly exceeding the
rather small value expected from intrinsic production. The criterias and event
rates for under water/ice light Cerenkov neutrino telescopes are given by
considering the possible detection of downgoing high-energy cosmic tau
neutrinos through characteristic double shower events.Comment: 10 pages, Revtex, 3 figures included with eps
Neutrino oscillations in structured matter
A layered material structure in a monochromatic neutrino beam produces
interference effects that could be used for the measurement of features of the
neutrino mass matrix. The phenomenon would be most useful at high energies.Comment: 18 pp of which two figure
